2026 Fall & Summer Newsletter August 1- October 15

Thank You to my amazing clients.  We are about to enter into my favorite time of year.  August is always full of new beginnings which immediately leads us into the season of Fall where the air smells of magic and dreams seem possible.  Iowa is such a beautiful state to experience this time of year.  

I have many secrets to my success... and I am happy to share Most of them with my clients!  What products am I obsessed with?

Loyalty is not just for dogs.  As most of my loyal clients know I value loyalty as well.  That also goes for the products that I carefully select to use on my canine clients.  Did you know that I have used the same wonderful brand of shampoos and conditioners for over 15 years?!  I absolutely love the American company called Best Shot when it comes to all things shampoo and conditioner.  They have never let me down.  Their products are clean.  They leave your dog looking and feeling fabulous.  They leave out all the harmful dyes and scents that can irritate your dog's skin (and your wonderful dog groomer's skin).  This company never skimps on quality and they use the finest technology and ingredients.  When it comes to your dog's bath there is no other brand that delivers a better outcome for your beloved dog.   I keep a close eye on the products that are new in the industry and I have yet to find a better brand than Best Shot.  An added benefit of using the same product line year after year is knowing that each and every canine client is familiar with the product.  I can't even count how many compliments I have received on my baths over the years.  Technique plays an important roll in great grooms AND so does using the best products.  You can always count on me to never cut corners when it comes to my canine clients.

Nail Trimming AND Nail Grinding is included with ALL Deluxe Groom & Baths

Friendly reminder that a nail trim and nail grind service is included with all deluxe grooms and baths.  There is no need to ask for the service as it is already included.  I want all my clients to experience the best so I always include both.  No need to ask for an add on its included in the cost.  I love to trim the nail first and then immediately follow up with a nail grind in the same session.  The trim removes the length of the nail and the grind allows me to safely reduce some additional length and also smooth out some of those sharp edges that nail trims alone will leave.  Not all dogs will tolerate the nail grind however I can proudly say that I have 95% of my canine clients that I have safely gained the trust of that allow me to perform both services.  Routine nail trims are incredibly important.  Many of my clients ask me to stop by for an a la carte nail trim and grind between their full groom appointments (I suggest a trim/grind at least one time every 4-5 weeks)  I am usually in and out within 15 minutes.  Are you a current client that feels that your dogs' nails get too long between your already scheduled deluxe groom appointments?  Fear not just shoot me a text message at 515-631-2948 and I'll stop by for a nail trim and grind appointment only between your deluxe grooming appointments.  The average cost for this service is $30-35.

What brushes and combs should I use for coat care between deluxe Grooms?

Brushing between grooms is very important.  I am often asked what products I trust.  Here are my absolute must have brush and comb for daily use between deluxe groom services.  Brush 1st then comb 2nd.  If you can't get a comb through your dog's coat then expect a very short pup after your next groom. Fear not short clips are amazingly adorable and practical but brushing and combing between grooms helps keep your dog happy and healthy.

Yearly Inflation Price Adjustment

May 15 all Deluxe Groom prices will increase by $5.  I strive to adjust prices based on the inflation my business experiences only one time per year.  My last inflation adjustment was 12.5 months ago.  In order for me to maintain a profitable business I have to adjust my prices to offset increased costs.  I strive to offer fair prices and amazing service to my wonderful clients.

Annual “vacation”

It has been an entire year since I have had 5 days off in a row. I’m so thankful to be so busy. In July I will be taking 5 days off in a row and in August I will take one day day off to attend the state fair. I share this because clients will

notice their August and September appointments are spread out about 5-9 days later than their typical schedule. 

What Happens if I (Amanda) am sick or if my Groom Van experiences an unexpected maintenance issue?

I work hard to maintain my health and I also work hard to maintain all my grooming equipment to avoid any unplanned downtime.  However unplanned illness and equipment breakdowns will happen.  If I am down just one or two days then I will work weekends to catch up.  If the downtime is more than 2 days then I will contact every single scheduled client via text and I will ask for you to move your appointment date back one week.  I will be certain to clearly communicate the new date via text.  I always work hard to control what can be controlled concerning these possible issues.  Downtime can be very tricky because I always maintain a fully booked schedule.  I am typically booked solid which means rescheduling all clients is my only option if and when I experience downtime that is more than 2 days.  

Vaccine Records

Every time you visit your vet to update your canine's vaccines please text me a screenshot or a picture of the updated vaccine record to 515-631-2948.  Reminder the required vaccines for mobile grooming are : Distemper, Parvo, and Rabies

Happy 15 year anniversary to Barks And Wags

This year I celebrated 15 years of self employment.  It's been an incredible journey.  I have learned so much.  This journey has been the hardest and most rewarding experience.  Thank you to all of you for the trust and support you have given me over the years.  I love being your family's groomer of choice.  I hope to keep going for decades to come.  I love this career path more than I could have ever hoped for.
